Around 100 hockey players from 12 Newark primary schools took part in a tournament dedicated to inspirational teenage sports leader Sam White.
Sam, of Newark, who died aged 16, was a sports leader at The Newark Academy. Sam spent a lot of time coaching with Tim Burch of Newark Hockey Club, who organises the tournament, now in its second year.
Sam’s father, Mike, said:
“It would have made Sam smile to see all the children coming together and playing a sport he loved.”
The competition was won by Long Bennington who defeated last year’s winners, John Hunt Primary School, 5-0 in the final. The shield was presented to the winners by Sam’s parents.
Seven sports leaders from the Magnus Academy helped on the day with tasks such as timekeepers and umpiring.
