The Legacy has been involved in a number of projects over the last year – quite simply due to our amazing supporters and fund raisers.
It has been a busy year, with marathons to snooker-thins, play days, pamper days and fashion shows, and we’ve had some amazing donations.
We’ve been able to give six brain tumour patients and their families relaxing weekend breaks at Center Parcs.
Along with Dr Nicki Hammill and Dr Emily Bennett, we have written and launched the Return to Education Project – this has been well received and it is hoped that it will be accepted nationally.
In addition, the Legacy has also bought a mock MRI scanner for the new Children’s Imaging Unit at QMC, and it is hoped that this experience will help to overcome the fear felt my many young patients and maybe even reduce the need for general anaesthetic during a real scan. A bonus is that this scanner will also benefit all children needing MRIs, not just those with a brain tumour. It should be installed at the hospital very soon.
There are also talks regarding joint funding for the ependymoma research at the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre. This should be agreed in 2016.
All in all, it has been a great year for the Legacy. Great supporters, whether they have given their time, or effort, or money – Sam would be so proud of you all.
Thank you.
